HIGHLIGHTS FRENCH ALPS

French Alps based around the legend of Alp Duez is on everyone’s bucket list. We will not only climb and descend Alp Duez but also take on the less known but more beautiful balconey roads into and out of Alp Duez as we take on the col de Sarenne which actually tops out above Alp Duez and descends into. We will also ride the major Tour de France defining mountains including Col du Glandon – Lacets de Montvernier – Col du Galibier.

We will eat and drink like kings as well as experiencing Alpha Bike new products and the best fat bike ever!

HIGHLIGHTS ITALIAN LAKES & ALPS

This tour has something for everybody: Some flat lake-side riding, good climbing and thrilling descents but above all incomparable views across Italy’s northern lakes. First, We take in Lago Maggiore, Lago di Lugano and Lago di Como! We will savour some of Italy’s finest wine and cuisine and explore some charming towns such as Varese, Como and OF COURSE BELLAGIO! We will then move to the big Alps taking the challenge of the legendary Passo Stelvio, GAvia and Mortirolo!

WHO WOULD ENJOY THIS EXPERIENCE?

The experience is built for all riders able to ride for 3-5 hours. This is not a race or high intensity riding, but rather a true cycling adventure across some of the most picturesque region in the world.

We will ride as a group on the rolling terrain and as individuals or small groups on the short climbs, so that everyone will enjoy the ride. On top of each major climb we will regroup to celebrate and refill our bottles, and then enjoy the descent together. As a team, we’ll support each other during the ride and make sure everyone finishes safe and happy!

MORE ABOUT THE TERRAIN

We have selected some of the best routes offering a mix of all terrains, but the terrain will be mainly hilly on the the first part and Mountains with some 8-10 km climbs on the second part. The start of each leg is easier to allow riders to get used to the mountains. fThe climbs are long and steady and the gradient is always around 7-8% and when steeper, generally for short distances.

There are some exceptions of course, such as the Mortirolo and the Zoncolan, where the gradient reach 15-17%!

 TOUR ITINERARY 

Day One - Bourg D'Osains warm-up ride

Main Route: 40km – 25mi
 | Total Ascent: 680m – 2200ft

This is a warm-up ride to ease the legs and body into it.  Some of you may have only recently stepped off a plane, so this ride offers a great way to “tease” out that tiredness.  It will take in some small climbs and offer spectacular views across the Alpe D'Huez and the surrounding mountains.

Day Two - Bourg D'Osains loop on Alpe D'Huez

Main Route: 100km | Total Ascent: 2000m

Feel like a champion climbing the less known but harder, rougher and more beautiful col de Saren!

Day Three - Bourg D'Osains loop on Col de Galibier and Glandon

Main Route: 170km | Total Ascent: 3500m

Our Queen Stage! An epic ride including the Col du Glandon – Lacets de Montvernier – Col du Galibier and back to Bourg D’Oisans!

Day Four - Bourg D'Osains loop on Alpe D'Huez Balcony roads

Main Route: 70km | Total Ascent: 1500m

An easy ride to recover from yesterday big effort! take it easy and enjoy the beautiful road up to Alpe D'Huez with no stress!

Day Five - Bourg D'Osains loop to Col de la Croix de Fer

Main Route: 80km | Total Ascent: 2500m

Today we take the challenge of the Col de la Croix de Fer, often featured in the Tour De France!

Day Six - Bourg D'Osains ITT of Alpe D'Huez and Transfer to Italy

Main Route: 30km | Total Ascent: 1500m

The last day on the most famous climb in the world will be the first Alp Duez TT and a commemorative polkodot jersey to go with it. Afterwards we transit to Italy.

Day Seven - Varese Warm-up Ride

Main Route: 40km – 25mi
 | Total Ascent: 680m – 2200ft

Day Eight - Varese loop on UCI GF World Championships

Main Route: 130km | Total Ascent: 2000m

Our course goes into the Varesine mountains, climbing up to the Passo Cuvignone, Andrea & Simon’s favorite training ground, before returning to the lake and the town of VArese. The longer route adds one more climb, including the ascent to Campo dei Fiori, Varese iconic mountain!

Day Nine - Varese to Bellagio

Main Route: 90km – 55mi
 | Total Ascent: 1525m – 5000ft

This is a challenging day in the saddle, which takes us towards the famous Lago di Como.  We’ll cross the Swiss mountains and valleys of Mendrisio, 2009 World Cycling Championship host city.  The most difficult climb is that heading towads Lanzo, however it will be very rewarding, offering some spectacular views down upon Lake Como.  We then descend to the lake and then catch a 20 min Ferry ride to Bellagio, the Pearl of Lago Di Como!

Day Ten - Bellagio loop to Ghisallo

Main Route: 100km – 62mi 
 | Total Ascent: 1625m – 5300ft

Our last ride in the lakes district is one of the most spectacular, as we tackle the famous Colle del Ghisallo and Muro di Sormano. These climbs are the symbol of the Giro di Lombardia pro race and every cyclist should do it once in his life! We will stop on top to visit the Cycling museum and the chapel dedicated to all cyclists. After the ride, there will be enough time to enjoy an Aperol Spritz in one of the many bars in town!

Day Eleven - Bellagio to Bormio

Main Route: 160km | Total Ascent: 1700m

We leave the lakes and ride towards the alps along the undulating Valtellina. On our way, before we reach Bormio, we will take a detour on the Mortirolo, one of the hardest climb in Europe! 

Day Twelve - Bormio Loop to Passo Gavia

Main Route: 120km – 75mi 
 | Total Ascent: 1700m – 5550ft

Today, as optional ride, we will check the Passo Gavia from Santa Caterina, from 1000m up to 2685m...second in altitude only to Passo Stelvio!

Day Thirteen - Bormio loop to Passo Stelvio

Routes: 70km – 95km | Total Ascent: 1500m – 2800m

The King, Passo delle Stelvio with its 2750 m is the highest pass on the Italian alps and probably the most iconic climb in cycling.

Day Fourteen - Bormio to Val di Fassa

Main Route: 120km – 75mi 
 | Total Ascent: 2000m – 6500ft


A long day in the saddle across long valleys and a couple of major climbs: welcome on the Dolomites!

Day Fifteen – Val di fassa loop to Marmolada

Main Route: 100km – 62mi 
 | Total Ascent: 1600m – 5200ft

Today we will face one of the hardest climb on the Dolomites, the Passo Fedaia up to the Marmolada Glacier...great ride!

Day Sixteen – Val di Fassa to Cadore

Main Route: 120km - Total Ascent: 1900m

Another memorable day up & down the dolomites including the famous Passo Pordoi and passo Tre croci!

Day Seventeen – Cadore loop to monte Zoncolan

Main Route: 120km - Total Ascent: 1900m

The last day on the Italian Alps has the steepest climb in the menu: Monte Zoncolan! 10km at 12,5% average....good luck!

Day Eighteen – Goodbye
